Hello to the new blog, my name is Lauren and I’m 19 about to turn 20 and this is one of the first poems I ever did and this poem is about the difficulties, thoughts, and questions that pop up at times while being a person who stutters. I hope you guys enjoy my poem called, “To Be Free”

--

I'm dreaming as being as free as an eagle

My pen stutters

As I try to grasp my words

The right words lurk in my mind

As I try to speak

My words fumble over each other

My self countenance

Could not be more saddened

As my speech is anything but,

Flowing water

What is this burning feeling?

I look around the crowd

And feel the silent eyes

Judging me

As I feel the heavy pressure start building in my eyes

My mind starts racing

I feel tethered to their minds

Do they think I can’t say my name?

Am I taking up too much time?

What if they can’t understand me?

These strange thoughts linger

In my racing mind

How can I be happy?

When all that runs in my mind

Is what others think of me

So I say

I'm dreaming as being as free as an eagle
